This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Course Highlights

As part of this course, you will take part in the following activities:

  • An organised industry work placement (minimum 120 hours)

  • Participate in practical activities in our simulated training environment

  • Provide first aid CPR Training

Entry Requirements

To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, candidates need to demonstrate a capacity to undertake study at Certificate IV level, this can be demonstrated via the following:

  • Minimum of IELTS 5.5 with no individual component score less than 5.0 or equivalent

  • Over 18 years of age at the commencement of the course.

  • Pre-training review to assess individual needs and that the individual can demonstrate ACSF working level 3 for all indicators.

  • Basic computer skills

Additional Requirements

  • A satisfactory National Police Check (NPC) and where a student has resided in another country from the age of 16, as a permanent resident or citizen, they will be required to provide a Statutory Declaration.

  • Immunisation certificate – not all facilities have this as a mandatory requirement but students should be prepared to attain this immediately, if required.

  • A Working with Children Check.

Employment Opportunities

Practical Placement Hours

All students will be required to complete a minimum of 100 hours work placement in an approved workplace in the disability sector.

+ Delivery

This course is delivered face to face in a classroom environment with a combination of interactive workshops and opportunities to participate in practical application of skills and knowledge through, practical industry based simulated training activities and workplace participation.

2020 January Intake : 3 days per week : Monday – Tuesday – Thursday 9:00am to 4:10pm

Duration

Duration is 52 weeks (including holidays) allowing sufficient time to develop the necessary skills and knowledge in each unit. 120 hours work placement in a suitable workplace e.g. Disability services, National Disability Insurance scheme or Community service organisation.
