THE IMPORTANCE OF RESETTING AND REFOCUSING

Study breaks are important and definitely play an integral part in planning your study session.

However, sometimes we need more than a 15 minute break from the books. If we are charging through the term bouncing from one lecture to the next, taking notes, revising and then rushing off to work or home to the family…. A little break isn’t going to cut it.

It is often too easy to get caught in the ‘Survival Mindset’, where we race from one experience to the next, ticking the boxes, getting it done, beating the clock, and doing it all over again.

What we need to do is switch to the ‘Ease Mindset’ so we can get a broader perspective of the bigger picture.

There is a lot of power in the ability to step out of the cycle and refocus your attention, allowing you to reset your goals and be adaptable. Sometimes things get a bit out of our control and you feel like you are failing.

📣Well… listen up!

There is no shame in failing, because with out our failures we would not be learning.

🙌🏼The power is in the acknowledgment.

Now here’s what you need to do….

🙌🏼Refocus

It’s time to take a deep dive and look inward. Remember why you wanted to do this course. Go back and look at your goals, say them out loud and visualise yourself in that new career thriving and succeeding.

Maybe your goals have shifted and you need to write new ones. So write them on sticky notes a pop them where you’ll see them daily, this is a great way to keep yourself focussed on the end game.

🙌🏼Reset

Take a break and be kind to yourself. Check in with how you’re feeling and what it is that you really need.

Try not to hang on to the negatives or past failures, that is old baggage and you do not need to lug it around with you for the rest of the year, shake it off!

Allow yourself some well deserved time out and treat yourself to a massage, a night out with friends, a weekend of yoga and meditation. This is not procrastinating, this is preparing you for the challenges you are looking forward to facing with a new perspective.

🙌🏼Mindfulness

It’s a word that pops up everywhere on social media, but what does it truly mean to be mindful??

It’s really about being present in the moment. To master the art of stillness, and for some this may be the greatest challenge they face. The rewards are endless, for those that can take the time to be still, and discover what they really want to achieve. It gives us the opportunity to view certain scenarios from a higher perspective, rather than being caught up in the drama of it. If you are struggling with this concept then perhaps look into joining a community yoga or meditation class.

🙌🏼Celebrate

These holidays make sure you celebrate what you have achieved so far. Share your joy with family and friends and take the time to really enjoy a well-deserved break. At SIA we value the importance of rest. Leave the books and screens behind and truly make the most of this time to relax.
